About The Tide Clock
This tidal clock desktop gadget for Windows Vista Sidebar tracks semi-diurnal tides - two high tides and two low tides per day - based on lunar cycles. In order to be as accurate as possible, the clock was designed so that one revolution of the tidal clock is equal to a lunar day of 12 hours, 25 minutes, and 24 seconds. The hour markers are precise in their placement in order to correctly count down the hours to the next predicted high or low tide.

The Tide Clock gadget also allows for custom text of your choosing to be displayed on the clock face, a toggle for the simulated glass glare, and persistent settings so that once the clock is set, each future instance of the gadget that is opened will be automatically set as it was before.

It should be noted that, because of the elliptical orbit of the moon, this tide clock, as with all lunar tidal clocks, will be most accurate near the half and full moon when the moon is the dominating influence on tides, and will be least accurate, sometimes by up to 1 1/2 hours, near the first and last quarter moons.

This gadget will only work with the Windows Vista operating system. It will not work on XP or older operating systems.

Simple Installation
Installation of the tidal clock gadget is simple and quick! When you download the gadget, save it to your desktop. Once on your desktop, double-click the TideClock.gadget file and click the Install button. The gadget will install and automatically appear in your Windows Sidebar.

Easy 3-Step Process To Set The Tide Clock
Tidal clocks are most accurate when set to the high tide of a full moon, when the moon is the dominating influence on tides.
1) Determine the date of the last full moon using the moon phase tables provided by the Astronomical Applications Department of the U.S. Naval Observatory. Note: the times are in Universal Time (GMT), so be sure to convert the information to your time zone.
2) Use tide tables, such as those available at FreeTideTables.com or SaltWaterTides.com, to find the high tide time on the date of the last full moon at the tide station nearest you. There will be two high tide times for that date; either will work.
3) Once you have obtained the high tide date and time of the last full moon, open up the Settings panel of the Tide Clock gadget and enter the information there. Click OK to set and start the clock.
